Science and Social Studies in our classroom is taught in small group literacy based workshops. Students rotate through these workshops on a weekly basis, with each theme lasting approximately a week.
Our science curriculum is divided into five studies. They are:
1. Class Pet
2. Collections from Nature
3. Constructions
4. Dirt, Sand and Water
5. My Body
For Social Studies, our curriculum at the kindergarten level is called Me and My World. The Units within this curriculum are:
1. Who am I?
2. What is a family?
3. How do I get along with others?
4. How do I make friends?
5. How do I solve problems with others?
6. How can I be a good helper at school?
7. What is in my neighborhood?
8. Where am I in the world?
9. How do people live around the world?
10. How can I help take care of the world?
Extreme care will be taken to ensure that our curriculum includes the appropriate skills, as set forth by the Ann Arbor Science Outcomes, and Michigan Curriculum Framework, Science Benchmarks.
